A scan that would normally take a couple of hours. For those who like to install or update games on their PC are usually common with Steam disk write error. You would be best served doing some intensive disk scanning to find out what problems there are - and by intensive, I mean not just a quick scan under windows. So assuming you are within all this, the next thing to suspect is your drive having issues. However, if you're going to be downloading something that is say, 25GB, you won't have enough space because you'd need to allow around 75GB, which you would no longer have. So, if you have your 250GB drive, if you've used 200GB, you should be OK as you're within that 90%. When you run Steam you must have NO MORE than 90% of the drive used.Īlso, when you download a game, you must allow up to THREE TIMES the total file size. Send help Well, first off, be aware of the following (especially as you have only a small drive). i already run as administrator, very the integrity, cleaned the cache, reinstall it, but when the verifying ends, it will says "disk write error" then it will back to downloading and still end up in disk write error. still cant download dota2 bcoz of disk write error but i do only have 250gbhdd but it just also contain my os and this dota. ( this size was know from old days with Zip archive )Īnd ppl with new empty HDD, never have this issue, so if you have 250GB SDD and try DL a 50GB file, you are already in trouble.

you have no spec data on disk size and whats free left.ĭL size 50gb can be need 3 to 5 in multiple size. No we dont, and i look like lack of free space. When i woke up the next day, it seem pretty normal then I open steam and download squad it didn't work at the start it keep showing "Disk write error" but I keep pressing download every time it stopped working and managed to download Squad (don't know how that worked) but still have 3 others games not able to download. I have tried your advice to check my had drive and repair, I left it overnight let it do it thing. This will check the drive, fix errors that can be fixed and try to recover data from bad sectors when they can't be fixed. After running, read the results and restart the computer. Type chkdsk /r and press Y to let it run Rightclick it and select "run as administrator" type CMD (you'll get the command prompt as result)

Thanks for the advice, can you show me how to check my hard drive for issues? Sure thing. No it happens to all the games I try to update and download, it never happen before, for example, I try to update Squad, It show disk write errors. Hello Crazy Tiger, thanks for replying and sorry for late reply back as I haven't been on steam for few days. If it happens to multiple games, you might want to check your harddrive for issues.

I know people who had games that downloaded additional content like pdfs that got disk write errors on those files, for example. Originally posted by Crazy Tiger:Does it happen to only one game? Could be due to an issue with the game.
